“The Lonely Landscape: Poetic Existence (Heidegger and Cioran)” (Simon Obirek)

My favourite game of all time is Shadow of the Colossus. I’ve been playing it a lot, and I made this video essay to illustrate just how much Fumito Ueda and Team ICO say about our existence as human beings. There’s a lot of existentialism in the game, which is closer to poetry than video game.

Pessimism and existentialism are the main philosophies. Emil Cioran talks about cosmic loneliness in “On the Heights of Despair”, Matin Heidegger about dwelling as the fundamental feature of Dasein in “Bulding Dwelling Thinking”. Alongside the isolated landscape of Shadow of the Colossus, I believe they say a lot about the human condition.
